13 Aug
Summary
- Businessman granted bail, then arrested for new fraud.
- Accused of defrauding a watch dealer of over Rs 92 lakh.
- Previously accused in a Rs 17 crore cheating case involving Javed Jaffrey.
Nishit Patel, a businessman residing in the UK, was arrested again on Wednesday, shortly after securing conditional bail from a sessions court. This new arrest follows his release from Arthur Road Jail.
Patel was granted bail in a previous case where he, along with others, was accused of defrauding actor Javed Jaffrey and his wife of Rs 17 crore. The Bombay high court has since granted interim protection from arrest to assistant commissioner Mahesh Patil, a co-accused in the Jaffrey case, who is seeking anticipatory bail and offering to turn approver.
In the fresh case, Patel is accused of cheating a luxury watch dealer of over Rs 92 lakh. The complaint details that Patel took delivery of three high-end watches—a Hublot worth ₹18.65 lakh and two Franck Muller watches valued at ₹19.38 lakh and ₹54.49 lakh—on February 13 and 14, promising immediate RTGS payment, which was never received.
