Teacher Murdered: Suspect Charged in Burbank Stabbing

A California man, Sergio Fraire, has been charged with murder for the stabbing death of beloved Burbank 1st-grade teacher Arti Varma. The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office also filed charges of attempted murder and first-degree residential burglary against Fraire.
Authorities allege Fraire "inflicted great bodily injury" on Varma's daughter, Meera, who was also stabbed in the attack early Monday morning. She was hospitalized in critical but stable condition.
Police apprehended Fraire Monday night at a house about two miles from the crime scene, with SWAT team involvement. Evidence related to the stabbings was recovered.
Arti Varma, 59, was a respected teacher at Bret Harte Elementary School. Her death has deeply impacted the school community, with the interim superintendent expressing profound sorrow.
