Burbank is preparing to honor K-9 Spike, a police dog who tragically lost his life in the line of duty on November 22. Spike was shot multiple times by a suspect during a pursuit that followed a routine traffic stop. The suspect had fled from officers and into a nearby neighborhood.
Authorities reported that Spike played a vital role in the search for the fleeing suspect. During the encounter, the suspect fired at Spike, fatally wounding the brave K-9. In the ensuing exchange, officers used less-than-lethal munitions before the suspect was killed at the scene, with his handgun recovered.
A formal memorial ceremony and procession are scheduled for December 3rd at the Burbank Police and Fire Headquarters. The event will celebrate Spike's dedication and sacrifice, recognizing his heroic actions that are credited with protecting officers and the community.
