18 Aug
Summary
- Construction firm fined nearly £15,000 for dangerous extension.
- Extension built over gas pipework and boiler flue, risking leaks.
- Family's lives were exposed to fire, explosion, and CO poisoning risks.

A construction firm, Adam's Building Construction Ltd, and its director, Mohammed Adam Azhar, have been ordered to pay nearly £15,000 in fines. This sentencing occurred on August 7th at Leeds Magistrates' Court following the discovery that an extension built on a property in Bradford was "immediately dangerous." The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) highlighted the firm's failure to properly manage the construction.
The extension was built directly over existing gas pipework and a boiler flue. Despite repeated warnings, the company did not relocate these essential components. HSE inspector David Beaton emphasized the severe risks this posed to the family residing in the home, including potential gas leaks, fire, explosion, and fatal carbon monoxide poisoning.
