On October 7, 2025, a brutal daylight attack rocked the city of Mysuru, leaving the local community in shock. According to the police, a group of youths killed 45-year-old Giligili Venkatesh in a suspected retaliatory attack.
The incident occurred around 12 PM when Venkatesh, a resident of Kyathamaranahali, was on his way home via Tank Bund Road near the D Devaraj Urs Multipurpose Stadium. He had stopped for a cup of tea when the assailants, who arrived in an autorickshaw, launched a lethal attack.
The attackers first sprinkled chili powder on Venkatesh and then proceeded to chop off his wrists with sharp weapons, killing him on the spot in front of the Mysuru Palace. Commissioner of Police Seema Latkar, along with Deputy Commissioners RN Bindumani and KS Sundarraj, visited the crime scene following the attack.
The police have formed teams to trace and arrest the suspects, but the exact motive behind the murder is yet to be established. Venkatesh was reportedly running a small finance firm and had allegedly taken over the business of a listed rowdy, Karthik, who was killed five months ago. However, the police are still investigating the connection between the two incidents.
The brutal daylight attack has left the residents of Mysuru shaken, and the authorities are working to bring the perpetrators to justice and restore a sense of safety in the city.
