Brown University Shooting Victim's Dreams Dashed

MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, an 18-year-old scholar with a bright future, was tragically killed in a shooting incident outside a review session at Brown University. Umurzokov had secured a significant scholarship and was scheduled to come home for the winter break. His sisters described him as a gentle and extroverted individual who prioritized his family's financial well-being.

Immigrating from Uzbekistan in 2011, Umurzokov and his family became naturalized citizens. He chose Brown due to its generous financial aid package and even worked over the summer to afford a new laptop. A close friend recalled that the family's move to the U.S. was prompted by Umurzokov's need for specialized medical care during his childhood.

Motivated by his own experiences, Umurzokov aspired to become a neurosurgeon, aiming to help children in similar situations. He was an exceptional student, excelling in numerous Advanced Placement classes and even advocating for more challenging academic offerings at his high school. His kindness and helpful nature left a lasting impression on his peers.
