Community Rallies for Brown Victims' Families

In the aftermath of a devastating shooting at Brown University on December 13, 2025, which resulted in two fatalities and nine injuries, community members have mobilized to support the victims and their families. A GoFundMe campaign established in memory of MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, an 18-year-old Brown student, has significantly exceeded its fundraising targets, gathering approximately $505,000 as of December 18, 2025, with remaining funds earmarked for charity.

Another fundraising effort is supporting Jacob Spears, a Brown freshman who was injured during the incident. Spears, who has since undergone surgery and is expected to fully recover, has had a GoFundMe established by friends to help his family with hospitalization and recovery expenses, raising nearly $65,000. The student's family has traveled from Georgia to be by his side during this challenging period.

The Brown University Undergraduate Council of Students has also created a mutual aid form to gather resources and assistance for the Providence community affected by the shooting. This initiative seeks donations of items, funds, and professional skills to address immediate needs such as food, mental healthcare, and transportation, demonstrating a collective effort to aid those impacted by the tragedy.
