Summary

  • Brothers raced parent-gifted cars, causing critical injuries to a teenage passenger.
  • Victim suffered life-changing injuries and missed educational opportunities.
  • Brothers received suspended sentences and driving bans for their actions.

Two brothers, Harrison and Harry Taylor, have received suspended sentences and three-year driving bans after a high-speed car race on Boxing Day 2023 resulted in a teenage girl suffering critical injuries. The brothers were racing their parent-gifted cars, a Mercedes A200 and a BMW 135i, in Poole, Dorset, when Harrison lost control, crashing into a gatepost. Harry's BMW then collided with Harrison's Mercedes, pushing it into a garden wall.

Mia Savage, the 17-year-old passenger in Harrison's Mercedes, was trapped and had to be cut free. She sustained life-changing injuries, including a shattered femur, fractured neck, broken arm, and eight broken ribs, along with internal bleeding. Due to her extensive injuries and recovery, Ms. Savage missed out on a sports scholarship and university admission.

The brothers pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving. Despite the severity of the injuries and the victim's impact statement expressing regret over joining the ride, the judge cited their young age and previous good character for the suspended sentences. The judge criticized the 'selfish' actions and the 'lack of foresight' in gifting powerful cars to the immature brothers.
