A chilling case of fratricide has emerged from Jhansi, where a man allegedly murdered his elder brother for property. The accused, Masarik, is reported to have killed his unmarried elder brother, Tariq Beg, on the night of February 9-10. Driven by a desire for sole ownership of their ancestral property, Masarik confessed to attacking Tariq with an axe while he slept.
Following the murder, Masarik allegedly dug a pit in the vacant land behind their house and buried Tariq's body. He then continued to live in the same house for eight to nine days, even participating in the subsequent search for his missing brother. He had approached the police on February 15, claiming Tariq had been missing since February 9-10.
Suspicion arose when technical analysis showed Tariq's phone had gone inactive at home. The brothers' uncle alerted police about a property dispute and voiced suspicion against Masarik. During interrogation, Masarik eventually confessed to the crime. Police have since excavated the burial site and recovered the decomposed body for post-mortem examination.
