21 Oct
Summary
- A British woman, Jacqueline Causton, died on Zakynthos island in May.
- A man was arrested twice on suspicion of her murder.
- The investigation is complex due to Greek authorities holding evidence.

An inquest has opened into the death of Jacqueline Causton, a 66-year-old British woman who passed away on the island of Zakynthos, also known as Zante, in May. Ms. Causton was discovered unresponsive at her villa on May 14th and was pronounced dead after being taken to a local hospital. Her body was subsequently repatriated.
South Yorkshire Police have arrested a man on suspicion of murder. The suspect was initially arrested on June 12th, bailed, and then re-arrested last weekend following the emergence of fresh evidence. The police investigation is reportedly complex, involving collaboration with Greek authorities.
Further challenges in the probe include evidence being held in Greece and the possibility of foreign nationals being key witnesses. Additional pathological work is anticipated, and a decision is pending on whether Greek or British authorities will lead the investigation.
Ms. Causton, from Bawtry in South Yorkshire, was also recognized as a devoted supporter of the mental health charity Doncaster Mind. She and her late husband were known for their annual transformation of their home into a Christmas spectacle, bringing joy and community spirit.
