Victoria Hart, a 33-year-old British mother of three, was tragically murdered in her Spanish home on Sunday, January 26, 2026. Her estranged husband, Juan Antonio Rueda, was arrested after he surrendered to authorities, confessing to a grave act. The incident occurred in the La Paca area of Alhaurin el Grande, Malaga.
A close friend of Victoria's, Elaine Mawer, described how the hairdresser had taken significant steps to protect herself from Rueda, whom she characterized as narcissistic and struggling with drug addiction. Victoria had reportedly installed security cameras and changed the locks on her home.
According to Mawer, Rueda had been ignoring a restraining order and was awaiting electronic tagging by the police to monitor his movements. Mawer suggested that the system had failed Victoria, and that the electronic tag, if implemented sooner, might have saved her life.
Rueda's alleged actions stemmed from his inability to accept the separation and Victoria's decision to remain in the family home for their children. Mawer detailed a pattern of psychological abuse, with Rueda demeaning Victoria and engaging in drug use, leading to their marital breakdown. His mother reportedly also came to recognize Rueda's harmful behavior.
Victoria was a devoted mother who managed the household, cared for their three children, and operated her hairdressing business from their home. The friend also speculated that Rueda's drug use exacerbated his behavior. While Mawer believes Rueda may not have intended to kill Victoria, she attributes the act to his paranoia fueled by drug use.
