While searching, the son received distressing images of his father appearing emaciated and shoeless on a street. A Chinese national then contacted the family, demanding cash in exchange for information, which was later identified as a scam.
Following the failed extortion attempt, a private investigator firm was hired. They managed to geolocate Mielcarek using the provided images but only found his jacket.
Fortunately, a local woman named Pich found Adam Mielcarek living on the street on February 5 and contacted his son. She assisted the private investigators in reaching him, after which he was taken to a private clinic for treatment.
Mielcarek was found without his passport, necessitating an emergency travel document for his return to Europe. The son hopes to seek mental health support for his father back in Europe, as he has a history of mental health issues and may have been robbed or exploited.
