Avon and Somerset Police took action against three unlicensed music events that attracted hundreds of attendees on New Year's Eve across Bristol. Officers intervened at Aztec West, St Phillips, and Purdown, disrupting gatherings estimated to involve up to 500 people. During these operations, three individuals were arrested for various offenses.
At Aztec West, one person was detained on suspicion of drug possession, supply, and driving under the influence of drugs, with sound equipment also seized. In St Phillips, two arrests were made after officers faced projectiles. Police closed Feeder Road to prevent further attendance at this site. These incidents occurred as the force responded to noise complaints and public safety concerns.
Superintendent George Headley clarified that the police aim to ensure public safety rather than suppress celebrations. He condemned actions such as throwing items at officers and impaired driving, stating that strong stances are necessary. The event at Purdown concluded peacefully with organizers agreeing to turn off music without arrests.
