18 Feb
Summary
- A 13-year-old boy was randomly attacked and slashed on a Florida boardwalk.
- The attacker used a box cutter or similar edged weapon to inflict a severe neck laceration.
- Doctors stated the boy would have died if the wound had been any deeper.

A random act of violence on the Daytona Beach Boardwalk left a 13-year-old boy with a severe neck laceration on Saturday, February 14. The victim, identified as Sullivan "Sully" Clarke, was unaware he had been cut until alerted by bystanders.
Authorities apprehended Jermaine Lynn Long, 44, nearby, allegedly finding him in possession of a box cutter and a knife. Witnesses reported seeing Long slash the boy with an edged weapon. Long reportedly admitted to touching the victim but denied causing the cut.
Clarke's family expressed shock, with his father noting the severity of the wound. Doctors informed the family that Sullivan survived only because the laceration was not deeper, narrowly avoiding a fatal outcome. Long is being held without bond in Volusia County Jail, with a court appearance scheduled for March 10.
