14 Feb
Summary
- Main accused in Surjeet Bouncer murder case denied bail.
- Accused Neeraj Gupta alias Chaska has been in custody for three years.
- Surjeet was killed in a targeted firing incident in March 2020.

The district court has rejected the bail application of Neeraj Gupta alias Chaska, the primary accused in the Surjeet Bouncer murder case. This case stems from an incident that occurred approximately six years ago, with the accused having spent nearly three years in judicial custody.
The court's decision came after hearing arguments from both the defense and prosecution. The defense highlighted the accused's extended period of incarceration and the fact that charges had yet to be formally framed. However, the prosecution strongly opposed the bail, emphasizing the gravity of the crime and the potential for witness interference.
Consequently, Gupta will remain in jail as the trial progresses. Surjeet was fatally shot on March 16, 2020, near Sector 38 West Chowk by unknown assailants. Neeraj Gupta alias Chaska was apprehended in November 2022, while already serving time in Nabha jail for a separate case. His arrest was based on a production warrant issued by Chandigarh Police. Investigators claimed that his interrogation yielded significant clues related to the murder. Another individual implicated in the case was arrested in 2023.
