Police allege the pair parked their vehicle near the attack site, displaying Islamic State flags, before deploying firearms and explosive devices into a crowd of over 1,000 people. While the pipe bombs did not detonate, they were assessed as viable.
Naveed Akram faces 15 murder counts and a terrorism charge, among others. His father was fatally shot by police during the incident.
