Court Rejects Astrologer's Wife's Bail in Rs 10 Cr Land Scam

The Bombay High Court's Aurangabad bench has denied pre-arrest bail to Kalpana Kharat, wife of Nashik-based astrologer Ashok Kharat. Kharat, who is allegedly involved in a cheating and illegal money lending scheme, had sought relief from the high court.
The case involves the alleged duping of a farmer from Rahata. Kharat, her husband Ashok (who faces multiple other charges), and three others are accused of acquiring the farmer's four acres of land in Nighoj, valued at Rs 10 crore. This was allegedly done by camouflaging a loan transaction as a registered sale deed.
Justice R M Joshi, presiding over the bench, observed that Kalpana Kharat had misrepresented facts to the court. She claimed no knowledge of the transaction and denied being a signatory to the sale deed. However, the court found prima facie evidence suggesting she executed the deed herself, citing bank account entries showing Rs 85 lakh paid through her individual account as proof of her knowledge.
Kalpana Kharat has been evading arrest since the Shirdi police registered the case on March 31, 2026, based on the farmer's complaint. Her anticipatory bail plea was previously rejected by a sessions court in Rahata on April 22, 2026.
