Officers from the Orana Mid-Western Police District discovered the body of a man, estimated to be in his 70s, and a woman, also in her 70s, who was seriously injured.
The injured woman was treated by paramedics at the scene and subsequently airlifted to a hospital in a critical state. A crime scene was established, and detectives from the Homicide Squad initiated an investigation into the incident.
A search of the surrounding area led to the apprehension of a 30-year-old man within a local fast-food establishment. He was taken to Wellington Police Station and later released pending further inquiries.
