A tragic discovery was made at Sydney's northern beaches early Monday morning when a body was found floating near a wharf. Emergency services responded to reports of a person in the water off Sandy Beach, opposite Palm Beach, around 4:45 am. The body of an 88-year-old man was recovered by officers from the NSW Police Marine Area Command and brought ashore.
Despite efforts by paramedics, the man, who was found unresponsive, was declared deceased at the scene shortly after 5:00 am. Preliminary investigations by NSW Police indicate that the man may have fallen overboard from a boat that was moored in the nearby bay. Authorities confirmed on Wednesday that the man has not yet been identified and that the circumstances surrounding his death do not appear suspicious at this time.
A report will be prepared for the coroner to formally document the findings of the investigation into this unfortunate incident. The police continue to gather information regarding the events leading up to the man being found in the water.
