1 Jan
Summary
- An unidentified elderly woman was discovered deceased in the River Waveney.
- Police are treating the death as unexplained but not currently suspicious.
- Authorities are appealing for public assistance to identify the woman.

A solemn discovery was made on New Year's Day as the body of an elderly woman was recovered from the River Waveney near Beccles Marshes. Emergency services were alerted early on Thursday, January 1, after a member of the public reported seeing a woman in the water at The Quay.
Suffolk Police, who are leading the investigation, stated that the woman, believed to be in her 60s or 70s, was sadly confirmed deceased at the scene. While the death is currently being treated as unexplained, there is no immediate evidence to suggest it is suspicious. The coroner has been notified.
Detectives are now appealing for information to help identify the woman and understand her final hours. They are seeking witnesses who may have seen a woman matching the description—white, petite, aged 60-70, with short curly brown/copper hair—in the vicinity before 8 am.
