The cashless ticketing system of the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has faced scrutiny following the suspension of four bus conductors. These employees allegedly diverted passenger fares, collected via UPI QR codes, into their personal accounts. This fraudulent activity resulted in over Rs 1.3 lakh being siphoned from unsuspecting commuters.

Investigations revealed that the conductors did not issue valid tickets to passengers, sometimes providing Shakti scheme tickets or blank slips. They falsely claimed that the Electronic Ticketing Machines (ETMs) were malfunctioning. The BMTC discovered this fraud during routine inspections in December and January.

While most cases were uncovered by internal checking staff, one instance came to light when a passenger reported a conductor soliciting payments to a personal UPI QR code. BMTC has urged passengers to report such malpractices immediately to their control room.
