On November 14, 2025, Derek Rucker, a 37-year-old man from Blue Island, Illinois, was sentenced to 7 years in prison for a series of violent attacks that occurred across Chicago and Evanston over the last few weeks.
Rucker pleaded guilty to separate counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer, aggravated battery in a public place, aggravated battery to a transit employee, and two counts of burglary. The incidents included hitting a 44-year-old woman in the face, causing her to fall to the ground in the 500-block of North State Street in Chicago. He was also charged in connection with other aggravated battery incidents, including an attack on a 40-year-old woman in the 4600-block of North Broadway, a 23-year-old woman in the 1200-block of West Loyola Avenue, an off-duty police officer in the 300-block of Ridge Avenue in Evanston, and a 27-year-old woman in the 900-block of West Belmont Avenue.
Rucker will serve 7 years in prison on each count, with the sentences to be served concurrently. The violent spree of attacks across the Illinois cities has now come to an end with the perpetrator facing significant consequences for his actions.
