Summary
- Bitcoin heist linked to parents' abduction attempt.
- Mogul 'The Godfather' orchestrated kidnapping for loot.
- Crypto theft increasingly tied to violent criminal acts.

In the summer of 2026, an attempted kidnapping in Connecticut revealed links to a massive $245 million Bitcoin heist. The parents of a man involved in the heist were abducted but rescued when witnesses, including an off-duty FBI agent, alerted authorities.
The investigation uncovered that a California cryptocurrency mogul, Adam Iza, known as "The Godfather," orchestrated the attack. Iza pleaded guilty this week to conspiracy to interfere with commerce by robbery, facing a potential prison sentence of at least 14 years.
The plot originated from a nightclub altercation involving one of Iza's co-conspirators and the victim's son, Veer Chetal. Chetal and two others had previously executed an elaborate online scheme to steal 4,100 Bitcoins.
Before this incident, Iza was under federal investigation in California for extortion and fraud. He admitted to stealing over $37 million from Meta Platforms' business accounts and operated a crypto trading company, Zort, while employing off-duty sheriff's deputies as enforcers.
