A disturbing act of animal cruelty has left a Texas rancher devastated after their bison, named Louisiana, was found decapitated. The incident, which occurred on County Road 301 in Cooke County between November 23 and November 26, has prompted the owners to offer a $4,250 reward for information leading to an arrest.
The owners discovered the gruesome scene after hearing their dogs bark, finding the bison headless and decomposing. The Cooke County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crime, but heavy rains preceding the discovery washed away crucial evidence like blood and drag marks, making the investigation challenging.
Sheriff Ray Sappington noted that the weight of the bison's head suggests multiple individuals were involved in the act and its disposal. The ranch has since increased security measures as the owners express deep personal distress over the violation and disrespect shown to their animal and property.
