19 Feb
Summary
- Rs 3 lakh promised to accused for firing outside filmmaker's home.
- Lawrence Bishnoi gang paid Rs 50,000 advance to shooters.
- Accused used encrypted app to plot the conspiracy for attack.

Investigators have uncovered that a total sum of Rs 3 lakh was promised to those involved in the January 31 firing outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty's residence. The Lawrence Bishnoi gang, which has claimed responsibility, reportedly paid an advance of Rs 50,000 to the alleged shooters, identified as Deepak Sharma, Sonu Kumar, and Sunny Kumar.
The Mumbai Crime Branch's investigation indicates that Shubham Lonkar, a Bishnoi gang member, facilitated this advance payment to Deepak Sharma. Concurrently, five accused from Pune, who allegedly handled logistical arrangements for the attack, received Rs 51,000. Police are actively pursuing leads to reconstruct the entire money supply chain.
Evidence suggests the plot was hatched using the Signal app for encrypted communication, aiming to prevent tracking. The alleged shooter, Deepak, fled to Haryana after the incident with the firearm, which was later recovered by authorities. The weapon has been sent for forensic analysis to determine its make. The three accused shooters were apprehended in a factory in Jhajjar, Haryana.
Sonu Kumar, one of the accused, had been residing in Kalyan for two years and provided shelter and local information to Deepak after his arrival in Mumbai. Investigators believe the accused were motivated by the gang's notoriety and social media presence to quickly amass funds. The incident occurred outside Shetty's Juhu home, with four shots fired. No injuries were reported, and Rohit Shetty was home at the time.
