Bijnor Racket: Fake Cures for Gold Racket

Summary

  • Woman cheated of gold earrings worth Rs 26,000 by fake healers.
  • Arrested men confessed to selling stolen gold for over a year.
  • Fake healers targeted hospital patients promising cures.

Authorities in Bijnor have arrested two individuals in connection with a scheme where a 37-year-old woman was defrauded of gold earrings worth Rs 26,000. The suspects allegedly approached the woman on October 7, promising to cure her illness. This incident has exposed a larger racket focused on the illicit purchase and resale of gold, likely obtained through cheating and pickpocketing.

During the investigation, CCTV footage and other evidence led to the identification of five suspects from Amroha district. On October 16, two suspects, Hiradesh and Pulkit, were taken into custody. They confessed that for approximately 18 months, Pulkit had been selling gold, acquired by Aslam, Junction, and Kalia through fraudulent activities, to Hiradesh, his employer, earning a commission.

Hiradesh reportedly admitted to melting down and reselling stolen jewelry, having bought approximately Rs 12 lakh to Rs 13 lakh worth of gold over the past year and a half. The earring taken from the victim on October 7 was recovered, along with Rs 5,000 in cash. The group preyed on hospital patients, promising cures or even offering to double their jewelry.

Additional charges have been added to the case, including receiving stolen property, assisting in the concealment of stolen property, petty organized crime, common intention, and criminal conspiracy.
