30 Sep
Summary
- Two arrested for extorting money using fake criminal complaints.
- Gang allegedly used women to file false rape, Pocso, SC/ST cases.
- Over a dozen alleged gang members previously arrested and jailed.
Bijnor police have arrested two individuals, identified as Ravita Gautam and Naushad, who are allegedly part of a gang that extorted money by threatening false criminal complaints. The gang reportedly targeted individuals involved in disputes, using women to file serious accusations, including those under the Pocso Act and SC/ST Act.
An FIR was lodged on September 12 following a complaint by Sanjeev Kumar, who claimed he was threatened with a rape case and demanded Rs 10 lakh to settle it. When he refused, a gangrape complaint was filed against him, which was later found unsubstantiated.
Investigations suggest this racket is headed by Julfeqar, alias Babbu Langda, and has initiated at least five false complaints against Sanjeev. Police have stated that twelve other alleged members of the gang have previously been arrested. Authorities are examining the misuse of Pocso and SC/ST Act provisions and investigating potential involvement of others in similar extortion schemes.
