In Bhavnagar, a 34-year-old caterer, Mehul Mandaliya, died by suicide on April 6, a week after the incident. His death has led to a police case against four individuals, who are accused of harassing him over outstanding high-interest loans.
Mandaliya's elder brother reported that Mehul had been struggling with financial difficulties for six months and had borrowed money from multiple sources at exorbitant interest rates. The brother alleged that one of the accused visited their home two days before the suicide, demanding repayment and issuing threats. Another accused had reportedly taken Mandaliya's scooter in October 2025 due to non-payment.
Authorities recovered call recordings from Mandaliya's phone. These recordings allegedly reveal consistent pressure from the accused through frequent calls and personal visits, contributing to Mandaliya's distress. He was found to have hanged himself at a warehouse and was pronounced dead at Sir T Hospital.
