Summary

- Their mother, reportedly suffering from postpartum depression, attempted suicide.
- The babies may have drowned in a bucket of water, police suspect.
In a shocking incident in Vajarahalli, south Bengaluru, four-month-old twin babies were found dead on Tuesday. Their mother, Umadevi, 40, was discovered in the same room, having apparently attempted to take her own life.
The children's father, Ramalingappa, a real estate businessman, reported that his wife had been undergoing psychiatric treatment. Following the birth of their daughters on May 5 via IVF, Umadevi allegedly displayed disinterest in the children and expressed a desire to join an ashram.
Doctors who treated Umadevi at hospitals in Raghuvanahalli and Nimhans attributed her behavior to postpartum depression and hormonal imbalances. Upon returning home Tuesday afternoon, Ramalingappa found a room locked. Forcing it open, he found Umadevi hanging and managed to rescue her.
The twin infants were discovered unconscious in the room and were subsequently taken to a private hospital. Medical professionals indicated that the babies may have died from drowning, with the family suspecting the mother drowned them in a bucket. Talaghattapura police have initiated a case under BNS section 103, pertaining to murder.
