8 Dec
Summary
- A woman, her son, and her mother died in a suspected murder-suicide.
- Financial distress and mounting debts are believed to be the cause.
- The victims were involved in businesses that failed, leading to debt.
A shocking incident unfolded in Bengaluru on Monday, resulting in the deaths of a 38-year-old woman, her 14-year-old son, and her 68-year-old mother. Authorities are investigating the event as a suspected murder-suicide. The preliminary findings indicate that the mother and grandmother may have administered poison to the boy before consuming it themselves.
Investigators are pointing to severe financial difficulties as the potential motive. The victims, Sudha and her mother Madamma, had reportedly faced significant losses from their businesses, including a hotel selling biryani, and later a venture selling chips and milk. The escalating debt reportedly pushed them to work as domestic help to meet their expenses.
Sudha, who had separated from her husband years prior, had moved back to her mother's home with her son. Police are awaiting post-mortem results for definitive causes of death and continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding this profound tragedy.
