On the evening of September 27, 2025, Bengaluru's Hulimavu police acted swiftly on a tip-off to rescue three abduction victims and recover over ₹1 crore from a gang of eight suspects. The gang had kidnapped an Akshayanagar couple, Motaram and Lakshmi Devi, along with their cab driver Hemanth, near Yelenahalli.
The arrested gang members include Narasimha, Jeevan, Ravi Kiran, Kishore, Venkataraju, Chandiran, Kumar, and Naman. Two of them, Kishore and Venkataraju, have pending murder cases. The gang, comprising cab drivers, security guards, a milk vendor, and autorickshaw drivers, had demanded a ₹10 lakh ransom from the victims.
Motaram had recently received ₹1 crore in a banking transaction and another ₹1 crore in cash after selling land. He was allegedly planning to hand over the cash to an areca nut trader in Tumakuru through a hawala transaction, when the gang intercepted and abducted him, his wife, and the cab driver. The police were able to recover the entire ₹1 crore in cash from the miscreants.
The Bengaluru Police Commissioner commended the Hulimavu police team for their swift action and rewarded them with ₹20,000.
