Amruthahalli police in Bengaluru have apprehended a man identified as Mithun for allegedly impersonating an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer. Mithun is accused of defrauding Satish G R, owner of Shreyas Medicals, of Rs 41 lakh by promising government contracts.
Mithun reportedly introduced himself as a 2023-batch IAS officer associated with the National Health Mission. He promised a medicine supply order worth Rs 1.8 crore for primary health centres and demanded a 20 per cent commission. The complainant paid Rs 36 lakh in cash and Rs 5 lakh via online transfer.
Upon realizing that no official order was forthcoming, the complainant conducted a background check and discovered Mithun was not an IAS officer. The accused had also previously visited a government hospital in Chikkamagaluru, misleading staff about his identity and allegedly using a Bengaluru DCP's name.
Police suspect Mithun may have employed similar tactics against others, especially within the healthcare sector. He was arrested following a complaint filed by the defrauded store owner. Further investigations are currently in progress.
