The incident occurred around 1 am near St. Patrick's Church when a 22-year-old man objected to a street vendor charging Rs 35 for a cigarette. The dispute quickly escalated, with the vendor accusing the customer of damaging his tea flask.
Joined by accomplices, the vendor then demanded Rs 900 from the customer for the alleged damage. When the customer stated he had no cash, he was compelled to make an online payment. Despite receiving the money, the vendor reportedly continued to demand more cash. The situation turned physically violent when the customer attempted to prevent the vendor from leaving, resulting in him being dragged and sustaining injuries.
Authorities at Ashok Nagar police station have registered a case concerning hurt, wrongful restraint, and intentional insult. The incident highlights a disturbing trend of street-level altercations escalating into serious criminal acts, prompting an ongoing police investigation into the vendor and his accomplices.
