A significant crackdown on prison contraband occurred during a surprise late-night raid at Bengaluru Central Prison on January 17-18. Officials seized eight mobile phones, seven SIM cards, and other items like chargers and extra bedding as part of the Prison Reform Resolution Campaign.
This raid follows recent revelations showing high-security inmates using mobile phones and watching television, raising serious security concerns. Following the seizure, First Information Reports (FIRs) were filed at the Parappana Agrahara Police Station.
Director General of Police Alok Kumar commended the inspection team, announcing a cash reward for their efforts. Since November 11, 2025, a total of 28 FIRs have been registered for similar seizures, with 142 mobile phones and 109 SIM cards confiscated from the facility.
