5 Jul
Summary
- NHRC issued notice to Karnataka govt over alleged inhumane treatment of toddlers.
- Videos showed nannies allegedly placing toddlers in washing machines.
- A separate incident involved a child losing eyesight due to alleged negligence.
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken serious notice of alleged inhumane treatment of toddlers at a creche located on an IT company's premises in Bengaluru. This action was prompted by media reports, dated July 2, which included videos depicting alleged cruelty by nannies. These disturbing reports suggest incidents such as toddlers being placed inside a washing machine, sprayed with water, locked in toilets, and threatened.
The NHRC has issued notices to the Karnataka chief secretary and the director general of police, demanding a detailed report within two weeks. The creche in question has been temporarily closed as a precautionary measure. In a separate matter, the NHRC is also investigating an incident in Madhya Pradesh's Sagar district where a one-and-a-half-year-old child allegedly lost his eyesight following medical negligence at a civil hospital.
