Bengaluru's high court has upheld rape case proceedings against a 25-year-old business development executive, rejecting his plea to quash the charges. The survivor, who met the accused through Instagram, reported incidents of rape, outraging modesty, grievous hurt, and criminal intimidation. These events allegedly began after their relationship, initiated via Instagram in May 2023, soured in April 2024.
The complainant's lawyer detailed a series of physical assaults, sexual abuse, threats, and blackmail involving private photos and messages. The accused purportedly coerced the survivor into sending explicit content, then threatened to expose her to her family and on social media if she resisted. He is also accused of wrongful confinement and repeated sexual assault, often accompanied by physical beatings and degrading language.
Justice Mohammad Nawaz dismissed the executive's petition, emphasizing that the allegations disclosed serious accusations of sexual assault committed under duress. The judge stated that these assertions, supported by the complainant's statement to the magistrate, could not be discarded as improbable or false at this preliminary stage.
