Amruthahalli police in Bengaluru successfully recovered Rs 25 lakh allegedly stolen by a Nepalese couple who were employed as a security guard and domestic helper. The couple, identified as Bhuvan Bista and Seetha Bista, reportedly took advantage of the homeowner's absence on May 27 to steal the cash, which had been withdrawn to pay construction workers. The homeowner, CH Subbareddy, discovered the theft upon returning home and finding the couple's room empty and their phones switched off. A theft case was promptly registered. The police team, led by inspector Balaji V, tracked the accused to a relative's home in Kengeri Satellite Town and arrested them on May 28, thwarting their plan to flee.
During interrogation, the Bistas allegedly confessed their intention to use the stolen money to fund a lavish lifestyle in Nepal. They have since been remanded to judicial custody. Senior police officials advised employers to conduct thorough police verification for domestic staff, collect identity proofs and family details, and ideally hire through authorized agencies. They also emphasized limiting employee access to homes and restricting knowledge of where valuables are kept to prevent similar incidents.
