Bengaluru is set to resolve a persistent civic issue as approximately 8,500 seized vehicles are scheduled for relocation from police stations and surrounding areas within the next 15-20 days. These two-, three-, and four-wheeled vehicles have been impounded in connection with various cases, but their disposal has been stalled by ongoing court proceedings, leading to years of accumulation.
The Revenue Department has designated six sites across the city to consolidate these vehicles, providing much-needed space and addressing concerns over blocked footpaths and traffic congestion. Minister Krishna Byre Gowda has directed the Police Department to prepare these sites, marking a significant step in reclaiming public areas.
This move is integrated with the Greater Bengaluru Authority's 'Just Clean Bengaluru' and 'Freedom from Waste' campaigns. The initiative underscores the importance of inter-departmental collaboration in tackling urban neglect and ensuring public spaces are not used for long-term storage of temporary issues, ultimately improving pedestrian and traffic flow.
