A tragic murder-suicide has left a Portland, Oregon family devastated. On September 6, 2025, police responded to a call about gunfire at a home on Southeast 64th Ave. Inside, they found the bodies of 48-year-old Maria Florencia Rubio and her 10-year-old daughter, Liliana Morgan. Both had been shot and killed by Rubio's 22-year-old son, Miguel Morgan, who then turned the gun on himself.
Rubio's surviving son, 20-year-old Mateo Christian, described his mother as a "loving mother who always put her children first." He said his younger sister, Liliana, was the "shining light" of the family, close to her father and beloved by her classmates. The grandparents are still in shock, struggling to understand how this could have happened.
Fundraisers have been set up to help the family cover funeral expenses and other bills, including the mortgage on their home. The community is reeling from this heartbreaking tragedy.
