23 Oct
Summary
- Suspect denied attempted murder in north Belfast knife attack.
- Victim sustained severe eye damage in the June incident.
- Violence erupted across Belfast following the attack.
Hadi Alodid, aged 31, has pleaded not guilty to charges including attempted murder and possessing a bladed weapon. These charges stem from a knife attack on Stephen Ogilvie in north Belfast during June. The victim suffered significant damage to both eyes, losing the sight in his left eye.
Alodid, who has been in custody since the incident, appeared at Belfast Crown Court with an Arabic interpreter. He responded "not guilty" to all three charges. Videos from the time showed confrontations at the scene until police arrived, leading to Alodid's arrest.
The attack, which took place near Kinnaird Avenue on June 8, led to widespread violence in Belfast. Homes and vehicles were set ablaze following the incident. A trial date has been set for early February, with review hearings scheduled beforehand.
