BCA Pulls Out of ICE Shooting Probe

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) has reluctantly withdrawn from investigating a fatal shooting incident involving a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer in south Minneapolis. The state agency stated it was denied access to essential case materials, evidence, and interviews necessary for a complete and impartial inquiry.
Initially, the BCA was set to conduct a joint investigation with the FBI. However, the FBI later informed the BCA that the U.S. Attorney's Office had reversed its decision, placing the FBI in sole charge of the investigation. This left the BCA unable to meet state and public demands for investigative standards.
The shooting occurred during an ICE operation where agents were attempting arrests. DHS Secretary, in comments made recently, questioned the prioritization of immigration agents' duties. The BCA remains committed to public trust and is prepared to re-engage if joint investigative efforts resume.
