However, the lawsuit asserts that company leadership overruled recommendations to contact law enforcement. Despite an apology and promises of reform from Sam Altman, engagement efforts by British Columbia's attorney general were reportedly not followed through.
This legal action follows similar lawsuits filed by victims' families and other affected parties, who also accuse OpenAI of having opportunities to prevent the tragedy. Florida also previously sued OpenAI over alleged safety risks associated with its AI platform.
