- Harassment escalated after presenter's engagement announcement.

A BBC presenter has recounted a harrowing four-year stalking experience by Robert Green, 71, which left her feeling vulnerable and exposed. The ordeal began with unsolicited love letters sent to BBC Scotland's Glasgow headquarters, which initially seemed harmless but later took a sinister turn. After the presenter became engaged in 2021, the tone of the letters shifted dramatically, with Green believing he was in a relationship with her and misinterpreting her television appearances.
In September 2024, the situation escalated when Green appeared outside the presenter's home, approaching her car as she returned from a late shift. He had also previously buzzed her flat in the middle of the night and stood outside her window, causing neighbours concern. This behaviour, coupled with the letters, prompted police involvement, transforming the harassment into a serious stalking case.
Green denied the charges but was convicted on February 9 for engaging in conduct that caused the presenter fear and alarm between February 2021 and November 2024. He was sentenced to two years' supervision and a lifetime non-harassment order. The sheriff described his behaviour as "sinister, unwelcomed and upsetting," noting it passed the custodial threshold but was dealt with as a direct alternative to prison.
