Dalit Man Thrashed, Humiliated Over Loan

In Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, a Dalit man identified as Pappu Diwakar was subjected to severe physical assault and public humiliation by three local individuals. The brutal incident, which occurred nearly a month ago relative to January 20, 2026, stemmed from Diwakar's request for the repayment of Rs 4.5 lakh, which he had lent to one of the accused for a tractor purchase. The accused, identified as Chandrasen, his son Pappu, and their associate Godhanlal, allegedly resorted to casteist slurs and physical violence.
The attackers reportedly shaved Diwakar's head, eyebrows, and mustache, smearing mud on his face as part of the humiliation. Crucially, they recorded the entire episode on video and disseminated it across social media platforms. While local police have arrested individuals associated with the assault, the primary accused, Chandrasen, his son Pappu, and Godhanlal, remain absconding as of January 20, 2026.
