Bareilly Man Slays Family, Killed by Police Hours Later

In Bareilly, a family panchayat convened to settle a domestic dispute tragically turned violent on Monday afternoon. Afzar Khan, reportedly embroiled in marital discord, allegedly attacked his wife, Saima Khan, with a knife during the meeting. The situation deteriorated when Khan's mother-in-law, Asma (54), and brother-in-law, Adil (20), were fatally stabbed. Saima Khan sustained critical injuries while attempting to intervene and is hospitalized.
Early Tuesday, Afzar Khan was killed in a police encounter in the Izzat Nagar police station area. According to SSP Bareilly, police received information that Khan was armed and planning to harm his wife. During an attempt to apprehend him, Khan allegedly fired at the police team, injuring two officers. In self-defense, police returned fire, resulting in Khan's death. Khan had a previous conviction for murder.
