On Saturday evening, an 18-year-old girl from Baran district, Priti, was found dead in a hotel room in Kota, located 120km from her hometown of Kelwada. Priti, a Class 12 student, had left for school on Friday but never returned, prompting her family to file a missing person report that night.
Hotel staff reported that Priti had checked into the hotel alone on Friday evening and did not leave the room. When she failed to respond to staff on Saturday, police were alerted and found her hanging from the ceiling fan. No suicide note was discovered.
Initially, the police suspected suicide, but Priti's family members, who were convinced that foul play was involved, initially refused a post-mortem. However, they later agreed after the police registered a case of abetment of suicide against an unidentified person.
CCTV footage showed Priti traveling alone, contradicting the family's claims that someone had accompanied her. The Kelwada SHO, Man Singh, stated that a post-mortem is currently underway to determine the exact cause of Priti's death.
