A horrifying incident occurred in Barabanki on Thursday, where a 20-year-old woman was allegedly set ablaze approximately 100 metres from the Mohammadpur Khala police station. The victim was discovered engulfed in flames near a brick kiln in the Suratganj area. Locals alerted authorities, and she was transported to a community health centre. She was later referred to hospitals in Lucknow, where she tragically passed away late Thursday due to her severe injuries.
Following a complaint lodged by the victim's elder sister on Friday, a murder case has been registered. The FIR names Akhilesh Yadav and three unidentified associates as accused. The complainant stated that her sister was allegedly sexually assaulted before the assailant set her on fire. A video of the victim shortly after the incident has reportedly surfaced on social media. Police have detained Akhilesh for questioning as the investigation continues.
