Tragedy struck East Baltimore late Monday night when a shooting incident left one woman dead and four men wounded. Responding officers heard gunshots near Belair Road and Mayfield Avenue and discovered two men with non-life-threatening injuries. A 54-year-old woman also sustained gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
As police continued their investigation, two additional men, aged 25 and 31, sought medical attention at a nearby hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities are appealing for information from the public to assist in their investigation into the violent event.
This incident, while tragic, occurs against a backdrop of declining violent crime in Baltimore. Data indicates the city has recorded 132 homicides this year, a significant 28% reduction compared to the 185 homicides recorded by this time last year.
