An 18-day-old baby girl has tragically died following an incident involving a fall from height at a residential property in Westminster. The Metropolitan Police were alerted to the scene on Horseferry Road at approximately 07:30 GMT on Saturday. Emergency services attended, and the infant was treated before being transported to a major trauma centre, but sadly succumbed to her injuries.
As a result of the incident, a 43-year-old woman was taken into custody and arrested on suspicion of murder. The police presence at the scene has since concluded, with a cordon being lifted. On Sunday morning, floral tributes and a toy animal were observed near the Peabody Estate building, indicating the community's sorrow.
Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell described the death of a baby as an "extremely tragic occurrence." She stated that current investigations suggest the incident occurred within a domestic context. Police are actively seeking any witnesses or individuals with pertinent information to assist with their ongoing inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the baby's death.
