On October 23, 2025, a shocking incident came to light in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. A woman named Pooja, from the Mawai area, was arrested along with her lover Satyanam for allegedly strangling her 2-month-old daughter.
According to the police, the crime was driven by a mix of an illicit love affair and family discord. Pooja, who was married to Deshraj, a daily-wage worker in Mumbai, had gotten into a relationship with Satyanam, a local youth, while her husband was away. In August 2025, Pooja gave birth to a baby girl, but the infant soon became an obstacle to her extramarital relationship.
On October 19, 2025, just a day before Diwali, Pooja and Satyanam allegedly strangled the baby and then attempted to mislead the family by fabricating a false story about her death. However, the family grew suspicious and alerted the police.

The police took the infant's body into custody and sent it for a postmortem, which confirmed death by strangulation. Pooja and her lover were then detained for interrogation, during which they confessed to the crime. The couple was arrested and produced before the court, which remanded them to judicial custody.
The Mawai SHO, Suresh Patel, stated that the accused were arrested after the post-mortem report confirmed strangulation as the cause of the infant's death.
